President Mnangagwa pays tribute to national heroes Major-General Ruwodo and Prof Chinyanga

President Mnangagwa has hailed national heroes Major General (Retired) Richard Ruwodo and Zimbabwe’s pioneering anaesthetist, Professor Herbert Chinyanga, as towering figures in the country’s national development.

Major-General Ruwodo, whose Chimurenga name was ‘Moshe Pwititi, died on July 7 this year.

Prof Chinyanga died on July 2 in South Africa, where he will be cremated in compliance with his wishes.

Addressing mourners at Major-General (Rtd) Ruwodo’s burial at Heroes Acre this morning, President Mnangagwa described both heroes as gallant sons of the soil.

“On behalf of the people of Zimbabwe, the Government, our revolutionary mass party Zanu PF, and indeed on my own behalf, I express heartfelt condolences to the Ruwodo and Chinyanga families following the passing on of Major-General (Rtd) Richard Ruwodo and Prof Chinyanga,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President described Major-General (Rtd) Ruwodo as a gallant son who served the country with unwavering patriotism.

“Throughout his long career in the military, he exemplified unflinching loyalty as a patriotic commander who fought in the armed liberation struggle,” said President Mnangagwa.

He described Prof Chinyanga as a humble and selfless son of the soil who was endowed with professional excellence.

“The life history of the late Professor Chinyanga is an epitaph of patriotism, integrity, humility, professional excellence and selfless service.

“He was a towering national and pioneering physician whose lifelong service helped to transform the specialisation of anaesthesia,” said President Mnangagwa.
