President Mnangagwa says the Government is accelerating the renovation and modernisation of major public hospitals as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the country.
In a social media post on Tuesday, President Mnangagwa said upgrading the health sector remained a top priority of the Second Republic, with the Presidential Hospital Renovation Programme targeting major medical complexes.
He highlighted the 2 800-bed Main Hospital block at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare and Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo among facilities benefiting from the programme.
President Mnangagwa said supporting facilities such as Adlam House at Parirenyatwa had already been modernised, with the facility now equipped with solar power and clean borehole water.
He said extensive infrastructure upgrades were also being implemented at Mpilo Hospital, targeting clinical spaces and staff residences.
The programme includes the rehabilitation of critical patient wards and healthcare spaces, upgrading diagnostic and surgical equipment with modern technologies, introducing new medical systems to support health workers and addressing structural and utility challenges at referral hospitals.
President Mnangagwa also directed the Ministry of Health and Child Care and related agencies to remove barriers to the establishment of specialist healthcare facilities and services.

He said the Government’s goal was to build a resilient, world-class public health system capable of providing quality and affordable healthcare to every citizen.
“Let those with ears hear this stern exhortation,” President Mnangagwa said.
