President Mnangagwa has today sent off a cohort of students awarded scholarships under the ED-University of Zambia (ED-UNZA) Scholarship Trust at State House.
He also welcomed students who have been studying at the University of Zambia as part of the ED UNZA programme.
The students are enrolled to study at various local universities and at the University of Zambia, focusing on various disciplines.
Those who met President Mnangagwa today will be heading for the University of Zimbabwe and will commence their studies this month as part of a scholarship funding scheme that has been spearheaded by President Mnangagwa since 2019.
The programme supports academically gifted yet disadvantaged students from both Zimbabwe and Zambia to pursue tertiary education in both countries.
It was established by President Mnangagwa in November 2019 as an independent trust to help indigent learners.
The scope of the programme covers tuition, boarding, and academic expenses.
The programme encompasses critical and specialised fields like medicine, law, actuarial sciences, electronic engineering, biochemistry, and agronomy.
President Mnangagwa’s attachment to the University of Zambia stems from the fact that he completed his law degree at the institution around 1975.
