PRESIDENT Mnangagwa’s attendance at the ongoing Liberation Movements Summit here signals Zimbabwe’s deep commitment to strengthening regional unity and confronting emerging global challenges, the country’s envoy to South Africa, David Hamadziripi has said.

President Mnangagwa is expected here on Saturday, July 26, to join fellow leaders of liberation movements in Southern Africa for the summit billed as a platform for organisational renewal, ideological reaffirmation and collaborative response to regional and global challenges.

Running under the theme “Defending the Liberation Gains, Advancing Integrated Socio-Economic Development, Strengthening Solidarity for a Better Africa,” the three-day summit, which began on Friday in Johannesburg, is being hosted by South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC).

It brings together six liberation movements from the region, including Zanu-PF (Zimbabwe), ANC (South Africa), MPLA (Angola), FRELIMO (Mozambique), SWAPO (Namibia) and CCM (Tanzania).

In an interview at the Zimbabwean Embassy in Pretoria, Ambassador Hamadziripi described the summit as a critical opportunity for Southern Africa’s former liberation movements to reflect, strategise and coordinate in response to growing geopolitical uncertainties.
“His Excellency the President is coming, underlining and attaching the importance that we have to this discussion, this coordination, and to exchanging views with his colleagues in the region.”

In a statement, the ANC described the summit as a strategic intervention aimed at deepening intra-party solidarity and fortifying the liberation legacy against contemporary threats such as imperial pressures, economic crises and neo-colonial interference.
