Government is working on modalities to provide tangible incentives for Zimbabweans in the diaspora to invest home, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, has said.

Minister Murwira made the remarks this morning in a presentation on Diaspora engagement for Economic Development, read on his behalf by his principal administrator, Mr Farai Bimha, at the ongoing Masvingo Investment Conference.

The conference is running under the theme: “Invest in Masvingo: Your Gateway to Economic Growth for Vision 2030”.

The diaspora, he said, is a key partner in development initiatives, hence the need to reward them to contribute to national development.

“We encourage the continued use of formal channels for sending money, as these avenues ensure efficient and secure transfers that benefit both the senders and recipients,” he said.

“In this regard, the Government will continue to explore ways to incentivise Diaspora inflows.”

He said this highlights the importance that the Second Republic places on the Diaspora as a key partner in national development initiatives and consolidation of economic ties.

“Your involvement, our Diaspora, strengthens our international relations and economic ties, ensuring a robust and effective global presence,” he said.

“The Diaspora are urged to leverage their global experiences, networks, and resources to bring home innovative solutions, skills, knowledge and investments in their areas of interest.”

Diaspora insights and expertise, he said, are invaluable in shaping a vibrant and dynamic economy.
