PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is on Friday expected to launch the National Anti-Sanctions Petition Programme in Bulawayo, as the country observes the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Anti-Sanctions Day to denounce the illegal embargo.

The event will be held at the Large City Hall and thereafter the President moves to the 21st Zanu PF National People’s Conference to be held at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre.

The anti-sanctions event will be held under the theme “Embracing Innovation towards Vision 2030: The Relentless Fight against Illegal Sanctions.”

The SADC Anti-Sanctions Day is observed annually on October 25 and is an initiative which kick started when the region held its 39th Summit of Heads of State in Tanzania under the then President late John Pombe Magufuli.

The event, coinciding with the Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference, will bring together stakeholders to address critical issues impacting the nation’s development.

The SADC Anti-Sanctions Solidarity Summit will comprise a media indaba, roadshow, cultural and musical events, solidarity marches and public awareness campaigns.

Zimbabwe has been under illegal sanctions for the past 23 years with the embargo causing untold suffering to ordinary Zimbabweans.

The Citizens against Economic Sanctions are spearheading the Anti-Sanctions Petition Programme which will be presented before the United States of America’s Embassy in Harare.

Ahead of tomorrow’s event Bulawayo Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube, said the City Hall Park will be closed to the public.

“The City of Bulawayo would like to advise residents, stakeholders, parents, schools and members of the public that the City Hall Car Park will be temporarily closed for general public access on Friday, 25 October 2024.

School Buses will temporarily drop off and pick up school children along 8th Avenue between Robert Mugabe Way and Samuel Parirenyatwa Street only on Friday, 25 October 2024,” said Mr Dube.

He said residents who wish to do business at the city hall Municipal Building are advised to use the entrance on Fife Street (opposite the City Hall Fountain) on the day.
