HARARE, Zimbabwe — President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also the Chancellor of all State Universities, is set to preside over the 22nd graduation ceremony for the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) today. The event will celebrate the achievements of 3 320 graduands across various disciplines, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to education and development.
Among the graduands, 2 154 are female and 1 166 are male, highlighting a growing trend in female participation in higher education in Zimbabwe.
The graduation ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries, stakeholders, and family members of the graduates, showcasing the university’s contributions to the nation’s educational landscape.
Founded in 1999, the Zimbabwe Open University has made strides in providing accessible education through its distance learning model, catering to a diverse population of learners. Today’s ceremony symbolises not only individual academic achievements but also the broader societal shift towards inclusivity in education.
