President Mnangagwa urges SADC to promote children’s rights

President Mnangagwa who is also the SADC chairperson today officiated at the World Children’s Day commemorations at Baobab Primary School in Victoria Falls.

Government, in partnership with UNICEF, hosted thousands of children from Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe for the regional commemorations.

The World Children’s Day is a special occasion celebrated worldwide to honour the joys of childhood and to raise awareness about their rights and well-being.

In his address, President Mnangagwa said there is need for SADC countries to promote children’s rights.

“We need to strengthen instruments on child protection. On its part, Zimbabwe remains committed to enhancing the rights of children.

“I urge all of us to avail resources to support children in their call to action. Investing in our children is equal to investing in our future,” he said.

 

Child representatives from each of the countries that attended the commemorations received US$7 000 from President Mnangagwa on behalf of their delegations.
