PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent a message of condolence following the death of a Plumtree luminary Mr Rabson Sibanda who passed away on Monday after being ill for some time.
Mr Sibanda (84) was buried yesterday at his rural home in Makhulela Village in Bulilima District, about 100 kilometres from Plumtree Town.
The late Mr Sibanda was the father of prominent Plumtree businessman, Mr Michael Sibanda who owns Golden Harmony Supermarkets in the border town.
The President’s message was conveyed to the family by the Minister of Power and Energy Development as well as Acting Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo at the Sibanda homestead.
“Yesterday I was with President Mnangangwa in Chegutu where he was officiating at the renaming of Suri Suri Air Base after our own icon the late Cde Jason Ziyapapa Moyo. That’s when I heard the message of the death of our father (late Sibanda). I told him that I am going to Plumtree and he asked me what was there. I told him the sad news and he sent his condolences to you. He said I should tell you that he is with you in this time of your great loss,” said Cde Moyo.
He said the late Mr Sibanda is a hero whose works should be celebrated.
“One does not need to be declared a hero. Heroes are not declared but they become heroes by the works they do. Here we are burying a hero whose works are there for everyone to testify. He was a hard worker who did not only work for himself but for everyone in the country,” he said.
Cde Moyo said people of Matabeleland South should be united and work together for a prosperous country.
“Matabeleland South is home to the luminaries of the liberation struggle, the late Father Zimbabwe, Cde Joshua Nkomo, JZ Moyo, George Silundika and Edward Ndlovu. These are our luminaries who make this province great among others. As people who are left we should not betray them and the only way we can honour them is to vote for President ED Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF in the forthcoming elections,” said Cde Moyo.
