President Mugabe in Tanzania to attend the inauguration of Kikwete

President Mugabe was seen off at the Harare International Airport by Vice President Joice Mujuru, service chiefs and senior government officials.

He was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and senior government officials.

President Kikwete was re-elected in the October 31 parlimentary and presidential elections, which saw him contesting with Willbroad Slaa of the Chama Chama Democrasia na Maendeleo and Ibrahim Lipumpa  of the Civic United Front.

Kikwete,  who took over presidency from Benjamin Mukapa was bidding for his 2nd and final term at the helm of East Africa’s 2nd largest economy.

The election was the 4th multi-party election since the introduction of multi- partism in Tanzania in 1995.

Chama Chama Pinduzi party by the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, has been in power for the last 42 years.

Meanwhile, Vice President Mujuru is the Acting President.-ZBC
