President of the Senate, Honourable Mabel Chinomona, has joined fellow women Speakers and Presidents of National and Regional Parliaments in Geneva, Switzerland, for the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament (15SWSP), a key global forum for advancing inclusive parliamentary leadership.

The high-level gathering, convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in collaboration with the Swiss Parliament, brings together women in top legislative leadership roles to engage on strategies to enhance gender-responsive governance amid complex global challenges.

The Summit serves as a vital platform for women leaders to exchange views, share experiences, and deepen cooperation in addressing both national and transnational issues through inclusive leadership.

“Convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in close collaboration with the Swiss Parliament, this important gathering provides a unique forum for women in the highest levels of parliamentary leadership,” Parliament said in a statement.

The Summit precedes the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (6WCSP), set to take place from 29 to 31 July 2025 in Geneva, and is designed to influence the global parliamentary agenda by foregrounding the voices of women leaders.

“The Summit aims to shape the global parliamentary agenda in response to emerging political, economic, environmental, and social challenges. It is firmly anchored in the need for united and gender-responsive global governance solutions,” read part of the IPU’s briefing.

Chinomona’s participation highlights Zimbabwe’s ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality in political representation and legislative decision-making.

As a senior parliamentary leader and seasoned legislator, she brings to the Summit a wealth of experience in championing women’s empowerment and strengthening democratic institutions.

“The Summit serves as a critical platform for women parliamentary leaders to network, exchange views, and share experiences, reinforcing the role of inclusive leadership in building resilient and representative democracies.”
