President off to Kenya for Comesa Summit

President Mnangagwa has left for Nairobi, Kenya, where he will join fellow regional leaders at the 24th Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) Heads of State and Government Summit as Zimbabwe continues to assert its role and commitment

to deepening political and economic cooperation across the continent.

The President was seen off at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe, Minister of State for National

Security Lovemore Matuke, Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, and other senior Government officials.

The Summit will run under the theme “Leveraging Digitalisation to Deepen Regional Value Chains for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth”.

It is expected to drive the bloc towards a more connected and digitally driven continental economy.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Professor Amon is already in Nairobi.

Today, he will join his Comesa counterparts in attending the Council of Ministers meeting ahead of the 24th Comesa Heads of State and Government Summit tomorrow.

Kenya will assume the chairmanship of Comesa from Burundi, with Zimbabwe becoming the incoming chair. This will see Harare hosting the next Summit and steering the bloc’s agenda from 2026 to 2027.

This underscores Zimbabwe’s growing leadership role in shaping Africa’s economic policies, advancing trade facilitation, and driving industrialisation across borders.
