President Mnangagwa has reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Museum of African Liberation Project, describing it as a living symbol of Zimbabwe’s protracted struggle for independence and a permanent reminder of the values that define the ruling ZANU PF party.
Addressing the ZANU PF Strategic Seminar held at Heritage Village in Harare yesterday, the President commended the ruling party for choosing the historic venue for the high-level gathering of its executive leadership. Heritage Village is part of Liberation City, a project being spearheaded by the Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK) with backing from the Government of Zimbabwe, and which includes the Museum of African Liberation, Liberation Mall and a five-star hotel, among other features and attractions.
Opening the Politburo Strategic Seminar, President Mnangagwa said: “I commend the party for holding the seminar here at the Museum of African Liberation, a venue that symbolises the struggles which secured our independence and freedom.”
He emphasised that the revolutionary foundation of ZANU PF remains anchored in its liberation ideology, commonly referred to as gwara remusangano, which continues to guide the party’s vision and policy direction.
“At the centre of our revolution is the party ideology, gwara remusangano, born out of the liberation struggle,” he said.
The President noted that the Museum of African Liberation was more than an architectural landmark, and was home to the collective memory of sacrifice, unity and resilience that delivered Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.
“The Museum embodies the values that gave birth to ZANU PF and stands as a reminder of the sacrifices, struggles, solidarity and shared resolve that secured our independence, freedom, sovereignty, democracy and territorial integrity,” he said.
He said the decision to convene the seminar at the Museum was both deliberate and symbolic.
“It is, therefore, a befitting setting for the executive structure of the Party to gather, as we re-commit ourselves to the sacred mandate, bestowed on us by our Party Constitution,” President Mnangagwa said.
The Museum of African Liberation Project, a flagship component of Liberation City, has received consistent backing from President Mnangagwa and his Government as part of broader efforts to preserve Zimbabwe’s liberation heritage and promote Pan-African consciousness.
Government backing has been instrumental in positioning the project as a national asset aligned with Zimbabwe’s cultural diplomacy, tourism growth and heritage preservation objectives.
By hosting the ZANU PF Strategic Seminar at Heritage Village, the party leadership signalled the enduring relevance of liberation values in shaping contemporary governance and national development.
The venue has steadily evolved into a preferred location for major conferences, cultural festivals and policy-oriented engagements, contributing to Zimbabwe’s expanding Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism offering.
The First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, is the Patron of Heritage Village and she has used the venue to advance initiatives like the promotion of gastronomic tourism and her Gota/Nhanga/Ixhiba programme for boys and girls.
Through these programmes, Heritage Village has become a practical platform for intergenerational learning and cultural preservation.
