pledging 100 more towards the Presidential Schools Computerisation Programme. Receiving the computers from Huawei managing director Mr Wen Mingxuan, President Mugabe said the donation will go a long way in computerising schools throughout the country.
He said Harare and Bulawayo schools have been computerised under the programme.
“We have completed Harare and Bulawayo.
“We do the provinces in turns and we have done quite a number of schools now,” President Mugabe said.
Transport, Communications and Infrastructure Development Minister Nicholas Goche, who accompanied Huawei officials to State House for the donation, said Huawei has been in the country for the past decade.
He said the donation of computers by the company was part of its social responsibility programme.
“They have been working with us in the past 10 years through TelOne and recently the Government of China through Huawei gave NetOne a US$45 million loan for its 3G base stations,” he said.
Mr Wen said Huawei’s mission in Zimbabwe was to bridge the information gap through the upgrading of network systems.
The company, which employees 120 000 workers globally, operates in several countries in Africa.
