PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has approved funding for United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) midwife Princess Zinge (28) to undergo a kidney transplant in India as soon as possible.
The intervention follows a passionate appeal by Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Judith Ncube after UBH Chief Medical Officer Dr William Busumani sought assistance for the dedicated nurse.
The family had been seeking about US$20 000 to facilitate the transplant.
The approval includes full funding for Ms Zinge’s treatment in India, as well as the travel and accommodation of the kidney donor and a caregiver.
Ms Zinge is suffering from lupus, an autoimmune condition that has severely damaged her kidneys, leaving her dependent on costly dialysis while she awaits a transplant.
Lupus is a long-term autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks healthy organs and tissues. It can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs and kidneys.
