ZANU-PF First Secretary and President Cde Mugabe will today take his campaign to Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo where thousands of supporters are expected to attend. With the revolutionary party’s rallies continuing to attract capacity crowds, Mucheke Stadium is also expected to be full. The President is expected to drum up support ahead of the harmonised elections on Wednesday.
Zanu-PF provincial chairman Cde Lovemore Matuke yesterday said everything was set for the Presidential star rally and urged people to attend in large numbers.
“We are very much prepared for the star rally. Our members have promised to attend in their numbers to give our President support and assurance that we want resounding victory,” said Cde Matuke.
He also said the President’s visit in the province will be tribute to the fallen Zanu-PF heroes.
“His visit is very important because it gives us hope and instills confidence in the party as we are looking forward for nothing short of victory on 31 July. In a way his visit translates to paying homage to the fallen cadres from this province such as Dr Edison Zvobgo, Dr Stanslus Mudenge, the late Vice President Dr Simon Muzenda to name but just a few. We urge all members to convene at the stadium very early,” said Cde Matuke.
Meanwhile, Cde Matuke said district structures have arranged transport for members who would attend the rally.
“The districts have offered to arrange their own transport but as provincial leadership we will beef up. We do not expect any problem today because all logistics are in place. As I speak I am in a meeting with ushers,” he said.
For the past two weeks President Mugabe has been addressing star rallies in different provinces where tens of thousands supporters rallied behind the revolutionary party.
Tomorrow the President will address a rally in the Midlands before rounding up his campaign in Bulawayo on Saturday and Harare on Sunday.
