PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is today expected to commission the Judicial Services Commission’s Chinhoyi courts that had stalled for almost two decades only to come to life with the advent of the Second Republic.
JSC Secretary Mr Walter Chikwana confirmed that President Mnangagwa will officially open the courts which are expected to be a game-changer in delivering justice in the province.
The completion and subsequent commissioning of the multi-million-dollar project, which will have several courts including the High Court seat signals the fulfilment of the Second Republic’s commitments towards achieving Vision 2030 to become an upper-middle-class economy.
When he came into office President Mnangagwa set various targets particularly around infrastructure development that includes major road constructions, housing projects and also health facilities.
“The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency, Cde ED Mnangagwa will officially open the new Chinhoyi Courts on 3 September 2021 (today),” said Mr Chikwana.
JSC’s senior regional magistrate, northern division, Mr Tranos Utahwashe recently said the tamper-proof system which is a web-based case management system will automate and integrate all the courts in the country.
When The Herald visited the building yesterday, it was a hive of activity as final touches, including signage, were being put in place for easy navigation.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West Mary Mliswa-Chikoka said the new building showed how President Mnangagwa was committed to promoting devolution as it will improve case handling from within the province.
A Chinese firm, Hao Long Construction, has met the completion deadline despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the accompanying lockdowns which delayed progress.
