President tours exhibition stands at 7th SADC public lecture

President Mnangagwa has toured local tertiary institutions and youths’ exhibition stands showcasing their products, including drones and power stations, at the 7th SADC Summit public lecture at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare.

The Head of State and Government also toured the operational National Transtech Solutions Centre which is running the vehicle number plate production plant.

Speaking after the tour, President Mnangagwa said it was clear in Zimbabwe that “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” (the country is developed by its citizens).

“Our university is producing number plates for the nation. We did not have that technology in the past. l am happy that we are doing it for ourselves,” he said.

The number plate plant involves the University of Zimbabwe in collaboration with the Harare Institute of Technology, Midlands State University, Chinhoyi University of Technology, Bindura University of Science Education, National University of Science and Technology, Harare Polytechnic and Mutare Polytechnic.

After the tour, President Mnangagwa proceeded to deliver a presentation at the 7th SADC Summit public lecture running under the theme ‘Building Research Capacity and Innovation Ecosystems for a Sustainable Industrialised SADC Economy.’
