CHINA has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting global peace, development and international cooperation, with President Xi Jinping declaring that Beijing will continue working with the international community to build a shared future for mankind amid growing global uncertainty.

His remarks resonate strongly in Zimbabwe, which is set to assume a Non-Permanent Seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Speaking during celebrations marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing on Wednesday, President Xi said the world was undergoing profound changes and required greater cooperation, mutual respect and collective action to address emerging challenges.

He said China would remain committed to peaceful development while supporting multilateralism and initiatives aimed at fostering global stability and shared prosperity.

“As profound changes unseen in a century accelerate across the globe, the world has entered a new period of turbulence and transformation, and humanity stands once again at a crossroads,” President Xi said.

“On the new journey, we must follow the will of the people and the general trend of development, hold high the banner of peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit… and inject more positive energy into world peace and development.”

President Xi said China would continue advancing the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative and Global Governance Initiative, which he said are designed to strengthen international cooperation and offer solutions to common global challenges.

His remarks come at a time when the international community faces multiple challenges, including geopolitical tensions, conflicts, climate change, food insecurity and economic headwinds affecting many developing countries.

For Zimbabwe and other nations in the Global South, China has remained an important development partner through infrastructure investment, trade, agricultural cooperation, health programmes and industrial development under the framework of comprehensive strategic partnerships.

President Xi said China’s modernisation had created new opportunities beyond its borders, particularly for developing countries seeking alternative pathways to economic transformation.

“Today, as the Party leads the people in advancing Chinese modernisation, we have created a new form of human advancement and expanded the pathways to modernisation for developing countries. We promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, offering

Chinese wisdom, Chinese solutions and Chinese strength to address major global issues,” he said.

The Chinese leader said the country’s development would continue to be anchored on peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation rather than confrontation.

He noted that under the leadership of the CPC, China had evolved into a country widely recognised for contributing to international peace and development.

“Socialist China under the Party’s leadership is widely recognised as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order,” he said.

President Xi also stressed that national development and global stability are closely intertwined, saying China would continue balancing development with security while working with other nations to promote sustainable growth and international stability.

President Xi said China remained committed to working with all nations in addressing common challenges through dialogue and cooperation.

The CPC, founded in 1921, now has more than 100 million members and has overseen China’s transformation into the world’s second-largest economy, with Beijing increasingly playing a central role in global economic governance, peacebuilding and development cooperation.
