Power Giants Group has graduated from a medium enterprise into a large Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) company after receiving two Presidential Awards at the inaugural SMEs and Cooperatives Indaba, marking a major milestone in Zimbabwe’s industrialisation drive.
The company was recognised as Zimbabwe’s Best Engineering Firm, with its founder and chief executive, Engineer Edzai Kachirekwa, receiving the awards from President Mnangagwa.
Speaking to Zimpapers on Sunday, Eng Kachirekwa described the recognition as a testament to the enabling business environment created under the Second Republic.
“Allow me to remind the nation that this country is actually in safe hands. My President, ED Mnangagwa, the man who gives this nation direction, the man who has given our country hope, is the man that I am actually celebrating today,” he said.
Eng Kachirekwa also paid tribute to his wife, Mrs Kachirekwa, saying her unwavering support had been instrumental in the company’s growth over the past two decades.
“My beautiful wife, Mrs Kachirekwa, has been working very hard to make sure that Power Giants becomes what it is today,” he said.
“She has been with me for the past 23 years and has played a critical role in the company’s journey.”
Reflecting on his personal journey, Eng Kachirekwa said Power Giants’ rise from humble beginnings demonstrates how resilience, determination and opportunity can transform lives.
“This is a company started by a former street kid in Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans themselves, through the leadership of this country, decided to promote and support the company, saying, ‘This is how we want you to drive Power Giants,’” he said.
Looking ahead, Eng Kachirekwa said the company aims to expand its operations across the continent, positioning itself as a leading African energy and engineering company.
“With the vision that I have, I need to make sure that Power Giants is represented in 50 African countries,” he said
“These two Presidential Awards are a record-breaking achievement and something I never imagined would happen.”
The recognition reinforces Power Giants’ growing role in Zimbabwe’s engineering and energy sectors while highlighting the contribution of local enterprises to the country’s industrialisation and economic transformation agenda.
