ACCESS to potable water for every citizen remains the Second Republic’s major thrust with the Presidential borehole Scheme having spread across all the country’s 10 provinces.

In rural areas, villagers are also benefitting as irrigation facilities for horticulture have been set up.

One of the contracted firms, Prevail Group International, has so far drilled boreholes in every province, cascading down to districts with some of the areas covered so far being Nyazura, Gokwe, Zaka, Nembudziya, Chiweshe, Makoni, and Shurungwi.

In Harare province, boreholes have been drilled in Mbare, Hatfield, Calidonia, Dzivaresakwa, Warren Park, Harare South and East among others.

Addressing a Presidential Star Rally at Handina Primary School in Nyazura yesterday, President Mnangagwa said all the 35 000 villages across the country will have access to a solar powered borehole.

“Within 3 to 4 years, inside of the 35 000 villages, each one will have a solar-powered borehole,” he said.

Prevail International Group Managing director Mr Paul Tempter Tungwarara thanked the President and ZINWA for the provision of potable water across the country.

“We are very much excited to be spearheading the Presidential water scheme and we are going on full swing even after elections until every Zimbabwean receives water from the President,” he said.

Citizens across the country have heaped praises on President Mnangagwa for the provision of potable water.

Yesterday in Gwangwara village, under Chief Rukweza, Mrs Rutendo Gwenhure, said she was short of words.

“We used to do laundry at a river, but now we have been equipped with a solar powered borehole with four taps. This is a huge relief to us villagers around this area.

“We were also accessing water from unsafe sources but thanks to the able leadership of President Mnangagwa, we are now getting clean tap water. We assure him of our votes,” she said.

Another villager, Mr Kudakwashe Mudzingwa, added: “We thank our President for the solar powered borehole which will be accessed by anyone from the community.

“It will help us a lot especially this coming summer season as our wells would be usually dry this time around.”
