Presidential Goat scheme empowers women

Women must continue investing their time in empowering themselves and contribute to the economic development of Zimbabwe, ZANU PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs and Senate President Cde Mabel Chinomona said while officiating at the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.

Under the scheme, members of Young Women For Economic Development received goats, with Cde Chinomona also donating 20 sewing machines and horticulture seeds at the event held at Kotwa High School in Mudzi recently.

“Our President is leading by example in empowering women, hence we have the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, who is a woman. She is doing a wonderful job. There is an improvement in access network across the country and the minister responsible for that is a woman.

“I appeal to all young women to be focused. The future of this nation is in your hands. You will also leave this nation in the hands of those who will come after you. As you can see, we are aging and we are on the last days of our lives and our prayer and wish is for you to be responsible future leaders who will continue to take this nation to greater heights. The economic development of this nation calls for all of us to work hard,” she said.

Cde Chinomona said women should always be focused and responsible, and lead their lives in a dignified manner.

Working hard does not kill, but transforms livelihoods and improves the status of families.

Cde Chinomona said the sewing machines she donated were part of her efforts to empower young women.

“I have brought 20 sewing machines for you. My aim is for you to start a Young Women for Economic Development factory. We have schools here;  uniforms for these schools should be sewn by you. Work suits should be supplied by you from that factory.

Cde Tatenda Mavetera, the founding leader of Young Women for Economic Development, said her organisation would continue to work towards empowerment of young women.

Cde Mavetera, who is also the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, said they always encouraged each other to work hard.

“These goats are for young women’s empowerment. I call upon all our members to work towards economic development. Let us not slumber, let us rise and work towards achieving Vision 2030.”

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East, Dr Aplonia Munzverengwi, also called on women to support each other and do projects to empower themselves.

She said the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme is a game-changer and key towards women empowerment.
