Stakeholders welcome UN Gastronomy conference

Herald Reporter

The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ), has welcomed the inaugural United Nations Gastronomy Forum to be held this weekend in Victoria Falls, saying it will boost the tourism sector.

In a statement yesterday, GMAZ chairman, Dr Tafadzwa Musarara, hailed the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa for her creative efforts.

“We are most indebted to Her Excellency, the First Lady, Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa, for all her creative efforts that have culminated to this event.

“This event heralds the rise of a new food revolution that decolonises consumer food preferences, promotes a balanced diet, and accelerates the fight against non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cancer and high blood pressure.”

Dr Musarara also revealed that they had initiated the processing of traditional grains to enhance health and well-being in line with the First Lady’s vision.

“This new development, we are excited, has been well positioned to attract a new niche of tourist market. This commercialisation endeavour is a first in Africa and it has to be replicated in the rest of Global South.”
