The 2nd edition of the President’s Golf Cup concluded last week in Bulawayo with the drive of national pride, economic growth, and unity that the tournament embodies Zimbabwe’s resilience and vision for progress.
Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, NetOne CEO Mr Raphael Mushanawani emphasised that the four-day event was not only a showcase of golfing talent but also a reflection of Zimbabwe’s broader development agenda.
He linked the tournament to Independence Day celebrations, underscoring how sport and patriotism intersect to strengthen national identity.
“This deliberate continuity reflects a powerful narrative that sport, patriotism, and national identity are deeply interconnected.
“The President’s Cup becomes more than a tournament; it becomes part of a larger national story that celebrates Zimbabwe’s sovereignty, resilience, and collective progress,”he said.
Mr Mushanawani said that the Cup positions Zimbabwe as a competitive destination for international sporting events, stimulating multiple sectors.
“Such platforms stimulate economic activity across hospitality, transport, digital services, and local enterprise development.
“The influx of players, officials, and spectators not only boosts local economies but also enhances Zimbabwe’s global visibility,”he said.
He emphasised NetOne’s role as a connector and catalyst.
Mr Mushanawani highlighted NetOne’s partnership as symbolic of its broader mission to support national growth beyond telecommunications.
“For NetOne, being the premier partner affirms our position not merely as a telecommunications provider, but as a partner in the broader vision of making Zimbabwe a better place.
“Moments created here are shared with the world, contributing to Zimbabwe’s digital footprint and supporting economic growth under NDS2,”said Mr Mushanawani.
He added that golf has parallels between the discipline of golf and the qualities needed for national progress.
“Golf demands discipline, patience, integrity, and foresight—qualities equally essential in building resilient communities and sustainable economies.
“Every fairway navigated reflects calculated decision-making, just as national development requires consistency and precision.”
