Pressure mounts on Week 15. . . Chicken Inn chase redemption after home defeat

THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) enters a potentially defining Week 15 programme this weekend, with pressure steadily mounting on several clubs — none more so than Chicken Inn, who travel to Nyamhunga Stadium seeking redemption after a painful 2-0 home defeat in their last outing.

Having invested heavily ahead of the 2026 season, the Bulawayo-based Gamecocks were widely tipped to mount a serious title challenge. However, inconsistency continues to trouble the former champions, and their latest setback has intensified scrutiny around the club.

Sunday’s clash against ZPC Kariba therefore arrives at a critical moment in Chicken Inn’s campaign.

Traditionally, Nyamhunga Stadium has proved one of the league’s most difficult venues for visiting teams. ZPC Kariba have built their identity around tactical discipline, resilience and strong defensive organisation.

For Chicken Inn, under the guidance of reigning Coach of the Year Tonderayi Ndiraya, this fixture carries significance well beyond the three points on         offer.

A victory would ease growing tension within the camp and restore confidence following last weekend’s disappointment. Another poor result, however, would likely raise further questions about whether the club’s heavy investment is translating into performances expected of genuine title contenders.

The pressure is undeniable.

“The pressure kept on. We were very slow (against Scottland) we were not sharp. We need to improve our performance in our next game against ZPC Kariba,” said Ndiraya.

While Chicken Inn carry expectations, ZPC Kariba approach the match with far less attention, a position that often makes them dangerous — particularly on home turf.

Elsewhere, Week 15 presents several intriguing fixtures across the country.

Following their abandoned match against Hardrock last weekend, former champions Dynamos face a tough assignment against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday in what promises to be one of the standout matches of the weekend. Ngezi have shown consistency and tactical maturity this season, while Dynamos remain eager to stay within reach of the leading pack.

MWOS and Hardrock FC will square off at Ngoni Stadium in another Saturday fixture expected to test both sides’ ambitions.

On Sunday, Highlanders host FC Hunters at Barbourfields Stadium, where Bosso will be keen to maintain momentum in front of their demanding supporters.

FC Platinum entertain Herentals College at Mandava Stadium in a fixture that could influence the race at the top of the table, while TelOne face Agama FC at Ascot Stadium hoping to strengthen their position.

Simba Bhora’s meeting with Triangle United at Wadzanayi Stadium also carries weight, as the ambitious Shamva-based side continue their push for consistency.

At the National Sports Stadium, CAPS United will face Scotland FC under pressure to deliver a convincing performance after mixed results in recent weeks.

Week 15 will conclude on Monday when Bulawayo Chiefs host Manica Diamonds at Barbourfields Stadium.

Yet, among all these fixtures, attention will remain firmly fixed on Nyamhunga Stadium, where Chicken Inn’s response to adversity could shape the direction of their season.

For the Gamecocks, this is no longer simply about collecting points.

It is about proving that ambition, investment and expectation can still be matched by performances on the pitch. @FungaiMuderere
