EFFORTS to prevent and control infection have been intensified as Zimbabwe pushes to curb the spread of Covid-19, director for epidemiology and disease control in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Portia Manangazira has said.
After cases were recorded in quarantine facilities, the Government said there were fears health care workers and some patients might be infected at health care institutions and were now training health workers to protect themselves.
Training had always been there but has been intensified.
“The intensification has been necessitated by Covid19. If there is no infection control health workers and patients will be infected within the healthcare setting,” said Dr Manangazira.
“The training and capacitation of health care and other frontline workers is something that is ultra-urgent because of the increasing cases,” she said.
The training in infection, prevention and control had been pushed out to all involved, and right down the Covid-19 response teams.
WHO, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the Infection Control Africa Network, the Infection Control Association of Zimbabwe and Resolve to Save Lives were all giving support.
Thanks to support from the Africa Centre, two training sessions were lined-up for next week in Kadoma and Bulawayo to cover current hot spots Harare, Bulawayo and the Midlands.
