RESIDENTS in Rusape town who all along depended on one clinic will now have their primary health care burden eased following the official opening of Greysteam Clinic last Friday.
Speaking during the official opening of the clinic, District Medical Officer for Rusape, Dr Trevor Mwaramba, who was standing in for Manicaland Provincial Medical Director, Dr Patron Mafaune, said with a population of 31 000 people, the town had only one clinic in Vengere Clinic.
“Makoni as a district has a population of about 311 783, with 58 clinics, while Rusape town has a population of 31 000 and has only one clinic, hence the opening of this clinic is a welcome development, given that the figures show that the public health system is overwhelmed.
“As Government, we welcome private players in relieving the primary health care burden,” said Dr Mwaramba.
Officially opening the clinic, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Cde Mandi Chimene, praised the founder and director of Greysteam Clinic, Ms Gladys Svosve for playing her part in the implementation of the Zim-Asset programme.
“Zim-Asset propounds that we make use of what is at our disposal to improve the livelihoods of the communities around us and what is at our disposal include the human capital.
“What we are witnessing here is the use of the human resources that we have here in Rusape in improving the lives of the people of this town.
“I am happy that this is happening during my time as the Minister of State for Manicaland. The opening of this clinic will obviously relieve the burden of many here in Rusape. You (Ms Svosve) have added value to the community you reside,” she said.
Cde Chimene urged the people of Rusape to jealously safeguard the clinic and ensure that furniture is not vandalised.
“The maintenance of this clinic does not only lie in the hands of Ms Svosve and her family. She has done her part and it is upon us to see to it that we take good care of the infrastructure here,” she added.
In her speech, a patently joyous Ms Svosve thanked all key stakeholders that enabled her to achieve her dream.
“I really want to make a big thank you speech. I want to thank all those who chipped in and assisted me to realise this dream. The local authority, my colleagues in business here in Rusape, engineers from Harare, the airtime vendor by the street corner and many more I cannot mention by name, I really want to thank you for the assistance you rendered,” she said.
The clinic offers friendly consultation charges of $4 for kids, $8 for adults and $10 to see the doctor.
