Tanzania’s Young Africans SC Football Club have acquired the services of former Highlanders and SuperSport United (South Africa) striker Prince Dube, who spent the last part of the season frozen out by Azam FC due to a contractual wrangle.
The Tanzanian giants acquired the services of Zimbabwean striker Dube on a two-year contract. Dube asked to be released by Azam FC earlier this year but the club insisted that he must pay R5 million to buy out the remainder of his contract.
The dispute between Azam and Dube even reached the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF). Azam accepted his request on condition that he pays the hefty amount, as they believed he still had two more years left on his contract.
But Dube argued that his contract with Azam FC was ending in June 2024, not June 2026. The two parties reached an agreement late last month before Dube agreed terms with the reigning Tanzania Champions, Yanga SC.
Dube hit the jackpot to burst onto the continental scene in 2017. He impressed for The Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Cosafa Cup and in the Chan qualifiers. As a result, he was signed by SuperSport United from Zimbabwe’s giants Highlanders FC but then struggled for game time. He was loaned to Black Leopards for a season but still battled for regular game time.
Dube packed his bags and headed back to Zimbabwe, where he was then voted Zimbabwe’s 2019 Soccer Star of the Year second runner-up. The 27-year-old then joined Azam in 2020 after leaving local giants Highlanders. He quickly became a prolific goal scorer at the club. Sadly, his career was affected by injuries. In his first season, he scored 14 goals and slightly missed out on the Golden Boot award.
For Zimbabwe, he made his national team debut on 26 March 2017, in a 0-0 draw against neighbours Zambia. Since then, he has played in nine matches and has scored six goals. (farpost.co.za)
