WHAT are the chances of Highlanders holding onto rising star Prince Dube for at least the 2017 season or even beyond?
The odds are against it as the 19-year-old recently registered with player agent Gibson Mahachi, the man whose stable boasts of Warriors coach Calisto Pasuwa, the Kaizer Chiefs duo of Edmore Chirambadare and Mitchell
Katsvairo and Bidvest Wits striker Knox Mutizwa among other players.
In fact, most players that are represented by Mahachi end up plying their trade in South Africa and other foreign leagues. Chicken Inn and Warriors defender TeenageA Hadebea another Mahachi signing a could end up at Kaizer Chiefs if the deal between the two teams goes their way.
Mahachi says after a meeting with the young Dube he was impressed by the playeras character and discipline off the pitch a attributes that the player agent looks for in a player before taking him into his books.
a?I was impressed with the young manas level of discipline, attitude and character when we sat down for a meeting because without those qualities a player will not last the full race. A player can have talent and potential but the way he carries himself off the pitch is equally important. It was an easy decision signing Prince,a? said Mahachi.
Like any other locally based players that Mahachi represents he hopes Prince will grow as a player and move abroad.
a?Prince has potential, he is not yet there but I know he is a rough diamond, he only needs to remain focused and will get there one day,a? he said.
Mahachi will take over every aspect of Dubeas career to allow the player to concentrate on playing football as well as negotiate employment and endorsement deals.
a?All the player needs to do is to concentrate on training and playing football and leave the administrative issues to the agent. For instance a player might not find the best solution when confronted with a situation where his salary or signing-on fees are not paid on time but a good agent will sort that out smoothly,a? he said.
