Printing of Zambian ballots done

LUSAKA. — Zambia’s electoral body said yesterday that the printing of ballot papers for next month’s general elections has been completed.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia awarded Dubai-based Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Company to print the ballot papers for the August 11 polls.

Sylvia Bwalya, the electoral body’s senior public relations officer said the ballot papers for all the elections have been completed.

“I am glad to inform you that we have completed the printing of ballot papers and I must say that this is a major milestone in the timeline of the printing process,” she said in a statement.

She further said the packaging of the ballot papers has been completed except for national assembly and local government papers.

The printing of the ballot papers was witnessed by nine political parties as well as other stakeholders taking part in the forthcoming elections. The ballot papers are expected to be delivered before July 30.

Zambia will hold presidential, parliamentary and local government elections, alongside a referendum to amend part three of the constitution which deals with people’s rights. There will also be elections for mayors. — Xinhua.
