A prison officer has been arrested for allegedly pounding his wife on the forehead and all over the body with a hammer after she denied him sex.
Stephen Mupande, 25, who works at Khami Maximum Prison allegedly threatened to hammer his wife Methelina Sibanda, 28, to death.  Sibanda is admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital.

Mupande appeared before provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo facing two counts of physical abuse.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded to March 2 on $50 bail.

Prosecuting Mufaro Mageza told the court that on Wednesday last week around 1PM, Mupande’s first wife went to his house at Sizinda flats.

The woman wanted Mupande to accompany her to sell a refrigerator which they purchased when they were still married.

“When Mupande returned home from selling the refrigerator, Sibanda advised him to give the first wife all the property that they had bought when they were still married. This angered Mupande who hit Sibanda on the forehead with a hammer,” said Mageza.

The prosecutor said Sibanda sustained an injury on the forehead and was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

The court heard that Sibanda was discharged from the hospital and when she arrived home around midnight, she found Mupande “primed for sex”.

Sibanda refused to be intimate resulting in the infuriated Mupande hitting her again with a hammer all over the body, the court heard.

Mageza said Mupande threatened to kill Sibanda while he was hitting her.

Sibanda sustained serious injuries and she was admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital.
