ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Service Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu has been awarded as Head of Service 2024 by International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) in Singapore.
ZPCS Comm-Gen Chihobvu was among the prison heads, hosted by the Singapore Prison Service from September 1 to 6 where there were professionals, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders from the global corrections community. ZPCS spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi said the award has put the nation on the international map.
“As ZPCS, we feel honoured by the award received by Commissioner General Chihobvu as an organisation and as a nation.
“The conference was under the thought-provoking theme “Enabling Desistance: Beyond Recidivism,”.
“Participants were engaging in dynamic discussions, sharing insights, and exploring innovative solutions to enhance the quality of corrections.
“The conference touched much into a wide array of topics, including cutting-edge trends, technological advancements, community-based corrections, mental health, education, and vocational training.
“ZPCS took centre stage at the international forum with a captivating presentation, “Enabling Desistance in Prisons and Correctional Institutions: A Multifaceted Approach.
“On Zimbabwean perspective, the presentation showcased the organisation’s pioneering strategies for incarceration, rehabilitation, and reintegration, designed to create safer societies. “Developed in response to pressing challenges such as overcrowding, dietary constraints, recidivism, and health-related issues, these approaches have garnered widespread acclaim.
“The audience was particularly impressed by ZPCS’s emphasis on staff training and development, a critical component in enabling desistance among ex-inmates,” said Ass-Comm Khanyezi.
