THE camouflage, the stable aptly named ‘The Military Touch,’ and a regular running theme of the word ‘soja’ in his lyrics.
Well, music superstar, Jah Prayzah, has for a long time been associated with the military.
And, if fate had ruled otherwise, he would have become a soldier rather than a very successful musician that he is today.
“I applied to be a soldier, but then that is when I had recorded Sungano, and decided to pursue music,” he said on DJ Ollah’s popular Star FM slot, On The Spot, on Tuesday.
“Around 2005, that is when I first recorded, and in the next two years, everything went according to plan.”
The 36-year-old is the last born in a family of five.
“I was protected because I was the youngest.
“I grew up like any other child in the rural areas, doing different chores expected of a boy child.
“When I left the rural areas to stay in Kambuzuma, that is when I first went into a studio.”
He revealed he has roped in his mbira teacher into his band.
“I met my mbira teacher in Uzumba, and he was a relief teacher at my school.
“So, one day, I approached him and wanted to play the mbira.
“After school, I would sing and he would record, and now he is in my band.
“After he quit teaching, I decided to approach him so that we would work together.”
He said he is grateful to God for everything he has achieved, as it came as a surprise.
Jah Prayzah has 13 albums in his career.
