Private School event returns

Old school Hip Hop and RnB lovers are set to chill, listening to old mature gems from both genres as the Private School event will be returning with a show that blazes yesteryear hits on rotation at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Pavilion on 7 July.

This is the second edition of the Private School gig after they held a successful event last year in December. One of the organisers of the event, Davison “Diva” Feliate said the idea of the gig came after noticing a gap in the market as Hip Hoppers and RnB lovers were not satisfied as local clubs don’t play much music from these genres.

“Many of us grew up listening to Hip-Hop and RnB/Soul and it’s been long since we staged gigs that catered for that kind of music only. You go to the club and the DJs play one or two tracks and that’s it. They then divert to the music of the moment which is your House or AmaPiano.

“So, we saw a gap in the market as we realised people don’t usually get what they would like to consume (Hip-Hop/RnB/Soul), and we decided to craft this gig to meet the demands of the genres in the market. The response towards this show is great, especially after considering that we are building it on the success of our first show which he hosted last year. We did market research and people were keen on the idea of the show. With support from our first gig, I think we will get twice the number of spectators who will grace the event,” said Feliate.

He said those who will attend the gig must expect a top-class and VIP experience. He also said this time around they will fuse a bit of old school Kwaito in the mix because the kind of market they are targeting can also relate to the South African genre.

“This is an all VIP event. There is no division or segregation as we will treat our patrons the same. We are planning to have a seating set up so that we accommodate anyone who wants to chill while listening to good music and having their favourite food and drinks, be it cocktails or beer. The music we are bringing out is mature music, that’s why we decided to make the event a no under-23 (years) gig because we expect to host mature people who understand the nostalgic sound of these genres,” said Feliate.
