GOVERNMENT will continue to partner the private sector in national housing delivery to address the soaring demand for accommodation in the country, a Cabinet Minister has said.
Speaking at the launch of NMB Properties and opening of the bank’s Reoville 26 cluster homes in Marlborough, Harare, last Friday, National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Daniel Garwe said:
“We said Government alone could not do it because, even the Almighty Jesus did not do it alone. He had his 12 disciples and Christianity managed to spread to all corners of the world,” he said.
“Basing on that, we realised that we needed to be bold and have self-belief to build our country, all in line with the mantra
‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’. We are here today witnessing exactly what that mantra says.
“NMB, we thank you very much for participating in the housing delivery agenda,” said Minister Garwe.
He said Government is ready to offer affordable land to private developers with security of tenure.
“We realised we have got a resource that contributes significantly to housing delivery and that resource is land. Government has now reduced the value of land to intrinsic value and we are extending that offer to NMB and other developers.
“We can provide land for development with title deeds or land where we can have title deeds processed so that you can develop and do business,” said Minister Garwe.
NMB chief executive officer Mr Gerald Gore said they are committed to supporting housing delivery in the country.
“As NMB, we celebrate this huge milestone and we are happy with the support we have been getting from Government.
“We have heard the call of complementing Government efforts in housing delivery and we are committed to supporting this developmental cause of our country,” he said.
