The private sector has pledged to complement Government efforts in accelerating the transition to a low carbon future for Zimbabwe, an international development expert has said.
The Government has been encouraging private and public sector entities to come up with sustainable models.
The coalition members drawn from the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Ministry of Energy and Power Development, academia, corporates and civil society organisations, expressed commitment for the country to meet its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) pledge and uphold other multilateral environment agreements.
Speaking at the launch of the Zimbabwe Low Emissions Coalition (ZLEC) last week, Dr Ivan Manyonga, the executive director of Enviro Roundtable, said they will uphold four pledges of action that include setting low emission targets, reporting on NDCs, de-carbonising the value chain and advocating for climate action.
“This coalition, launched at a time the world is gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan, will establish a low emission reduction strategy roadmap and framework through which Zimbabwe’s private and public sector can accelerate the transition to a low carbon future for Zimbabwe,” Dr Manyonga said.
Mr Tawanda Marongwe, whose organisation is also a coalition member, said private sector support in terms of meeting targets set by Government will ensure fruitful stakeholder cooperation.
