Private sector urged to motivate teachers to perform

Sunday News Correspondent
ONE of the city’s flagship education institutions, ACTV Group of Schools has urged private players in the education sector to play a role in encouraging teachers to contribute meaningfully in moulding upright citizens.

Education is at the centre of the Government’s vision of attaining a middle-class economy by year 2030 as espoused under the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1). Since the inception of the Second Republic in 2018, the focus has been to inculcate the new curriculum in line with Education 5.0 which requires a hands-on approach in delivering learning aids that empower learners to think outside the box.

Awarding teachers who contribute to improving learners has also been overly emphasised, in order to reach the milestone.  Such were the sentiments echoed at the first of its kind teacher prize-giving day ceremony hosted by the ACTV Group of Schools in Bulawayo last week.

The education group that runs Angels Primary school, Cana Primary, and Tshebetshebe Elementary School and the V Mhlophe school made a sterling example on how private players in the private sector ought to treat teachers for their hard work. ACTV Group of Schools gave huge commendations to its teachers who performed well in the past year.

The educators were awarded with an array of prizes that comprise computer and Information Communication Technology consumables and prize money.

“The guest of honour at the event, Bulawayo Provincial Director Olicah Kaira told Sunday News that it was of importance that teachers are well taken care off, and it was the imperative that they are aware for their hard work.

“Rewarding our teachers is a duty to all. Hard work had to be rewarded. It is encouraging that we get to honour the hard work that teachers go through to educate our children. This is commendable,” she said.

The ACTV director Dr Victor Moyo said they felt the need to incentivise their teachers, in a gesture that shows their worth in shaping the country’s future.

“For teachers to perfectly do this, they need support from their leadership and the society at large. There is an African proverb which states that it takes the whole village to raise a child,” said Dr Moyo at the event.

“The main focal of coming up with a school is having a child in mind. We cannot speak of education, knowledge, school and a child at school in isolation, a teacher becomes part of this equation. Truly when we send our children to school we obviously expect the teachers to receive them.”

Dr Moyo heaped praised on the support rendered by the Zion Christian Church (ZCC), saying the education institution’s growth was hinged on the guidance offered by the religious organisation.

He said teachers under the ACTV Group of Schools arm, deserved to be recognised. “Our Motto as the ACTV group is ‘Together We Can Do It, alludes to the above African proverb which calls for unification in the building of the future leadership.

ACTV group of schools is an organisation that value team work. With this regard we are very much aware that most goals are won by teams rather than individuals. Today’s winners are extracted from the winning teams, of which everyone is a winner,” said Dr Moyo.

He said the institution is proud to be leading teachers who are organised, dedicated and fruitful.

The institution’s co-ordinator Mr Themba Ndwalaza said they hold the belief that teamwork plays a part in holistic and quality education.

“We acknowledge and appreciate the fact that people have their own skill and professionalism which they bring into the organisation, which we need to recognise and groom for the betterment of our contribution to education. That is one good reason we had a wide variety of awards in different departments.
