Police have intensified investigations into a case in which unknown assailants on Sunday night petrol bombed a house belonging to Bishop Ngoni Mwazha at his farm in Kwekwe, destroying property worth more than US$150 000.
No injuries were reported in the attack, which occurred at around 11 pm while the family was away.
In an interview, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway.
Bishop Mwazha is the son of the late African Apostolic Church leader Archbishop Paul Mwazha.
“We are investigating a case which was reported at Gabbari Farm in Sisombe, Kwekwe, which belongs to Ngoni Edward Mwazha and was reported by Loveness Mwazha (38), who said on May 24, 2026, when she was sleeping, she heard a strange sound at around 11 PM before she saw small flames of fire on the veranda, which then spread into the dining room,” he said.
“She called for assistance, and they managed to rescue a few items, but the fire engulfed most of the house.
“A report was made to the Police at Kwekwe Rural and the case is now under investigation. We will be releasing more details as investigations continue.”
In an interview on Wednesday, Bishop Mwazha’s wife, Mrs Desiree Kwaramba-Mwazha, said the family had travelled to Harare on Saturday morning, leaving their daughter, Loveness Mwazha, at the main house, while a worker was staying in a nearby cottage.
She said their daughter was alerted to the attack by a loud noise late Sunday night.
“At around 11 PM, she heard a loud noise from outside and the sound of a window being broken,” said Mrs Mwazha.
“At first, she thought it was ordinary criminals, but moments later, she saw a ball of fire inside the house.”
Realising the danger, Loveness got out of the house and alerted workers on the farm, who attempted to put out the fire but were unsuccessful.
A report was made to the police, who in turn summoned the Fire Brigade, but by the time help arrived, part of the 13-roomed house had already been reduced to ashes.
The family said the fire destroyed a wide range of property, including household goods, kitchen utensils, beds, blankets, bags of maize and beans, as well as other valuables.
Investigations into the attack are ongoing.
