Bulawayo based producer and keyboardist, Wendell ‘Kiid Angel’ Lipepe, feels honoured after he was nominated for four continental awards in Ghana and Nigeria.

The 24-year-old got the nominations following his impact.

“I have gained recognition on Trace Africa and received nominations from National Merits Awards in Ghana and Nigeria, including Best Music Producer and Best New Artist.

“I also run a YouTube channel that has 1,2 million views. I also have a song, which was once featured on Trace Africa for the whole of June.”

He has also released seven songs on streaming platforms.

“I am impressed by my journey since I have been invited to play the keyboard at Insiza District Expo, Dinner Party twice held in Bulawayo. “I have been fed information that big artists want someone, who is already making it too in the industry so currently I was building a name  and branding myself in a marketable manner,” he said.

Kiid Angel started playing piano at the age of eight, nurturing his passion for music. “I have collaborated with experienced artists like Joe Maseko, Bobolex, and Cherry C further honed my skills.“My creativity stems from sound’s impact on communities, and it speaks volumes, transcending words.

“My parents, especially my dad, inspire me with their excellent taste in music selection and composition.”The producer said, he faced challenges which include lack of family support due to negative stereotypes about the music industry in Zimbabwe and insufficient funds for quality equipment and promotion.

“I overcame these by working hard, generating income through side hustles, and believing in my potential.“I have released nine songs across genres like Gospel, Amapiano, AfroPop, and Afrobeat, focusing on groovy vibes and soulful instrumentals.

“My goals include learning from established artists, collaborating with local talent, and winning prestigious music awards.

“I also wish to headline international concerts and start a music academy to nurture upcoming artists,” he added.

The young artists also aims to create the “August baby Fest”, a platform for emerging artists to exchange knowledge, collaborate, and gain recognition.
