Clad in a red T-shirt, three quarter jeans and Timberland boots, Professor came on stage at around 2:30am and left thirty minutes later, much to the disappointment of fans.
The atmosphere at the venue was blazing but the self-styled kwaito musician failed to keep the flames burning, as he did not perform at revellers’ lofty expectations.
Despite the support that revellers gave him he failed to ride on that wave.
He started on a bad note. After singing one of his songs he paused and the expectant crowd sang the popular mockery tune Into Oyenzayo Siyayizonda.
The kwaito sensation failed to lip-sync his famous Imoto Etshontsh’ Imali to the end. He sang all his songs and others from other artistes which included Mahootas’ Bayethe.
Curtain raisers Iyasa thrilled the audience with their scintillating dances.
The group showcased the best performance at the show despite the small stage. They took revellers down memory lane with their old school dancing tracks.
Stunner, one of the main artistes, tried to keep the revellers on their feet but did not get any response as the crowd ignored him and threw missiles to get him of f the stage. He left the stage 25 minutes later.
Mon T, the South African disc jockey of the Bashanyana fame, did justice on the turntables, sending the crowd wild.
Professor, who was happy to be in the country, said he was pleased with the huge turnout.
“Magents, kade nginga expect eish! I thank you all for coming out and I won’t disappoint,” he said. Professor promised to come back for another show later in the year.
“I’m grateful. All things being equal I will come back, it seems people here love my music. I will be back for another show,” said Professor signing autographs at the VIP stand.
Queens Sports Club was tightly packed with almost a thousand people in the stadium.
The show was brilliantly organised from ticket sales to the entrance points which are usually congested, and there were police manning the whole stadium to maintain order.
Various DJs entertained the crowd with music from different genres till the break of dawn.
Delta Beverages provided refreshments throughout the night.
Professor went on a tour of the city prior to the show and promised fans that he will not disappoint them.
Professor, whose debut album University of Kalawa, has hit tracks that include Jezebel, Ijimaphi le Weight and Imoto Etshontshi’ Imali, has become a household name in the city.
