A NIGERIAN businessman based in Bulawayo died last week after a car he was driving collided with a pirate taxi. Mr Robinson Uche Onwuchukwu who owned a clothing and electrical shop in the city reportedly died on the spot after the accident, which occurred near Woodlands garage. Mr Onwuchukwu is survived by his wife, Amanda Onwuchukwu and four sons. He will be buried in his native country, Nigeria. Family spokesperson, Mrs Patience Tshuma said Mr Onwuchukwu moved to Zimbabwe in the late 90s and got married to Amanda in 1998.

“This has come as a shock to all family members because he had just gone to buy groceries for his household and a few things for his children to take to school the following morning. It is so sudden because he was fit and strong. We didn’t even think he would be involved in such a tragic accident. He collided with a pirate taxi that was coming from the Matsheumhlophe direction on Sunday evening around 5pm when he was coming from the city centre. An ambulance was called but it delayed. When his wife arrived at the scene, he was dead,” she said.

Mrs Tshuma said Mr Onwuchukwu was a pillar of strength to the whole family and the community. She said his death was a blow to a number of children in the community whom he helped with school fees and jobs at his various shops.
