A SHOW promoter from Gweru and an accomplice have been convicted of robbery after they forcefully took $1,300 and a cell phone from a man who owed the promoter $120.
Gweru Magistrate Judith Taruvinga found Esau Hondora, 33, from Lundi Park Suburb, who is a well known promoter in Gweru and Proud Mhaka, 29, from Mkoba Village 3, guilty of robbery.
The duo, in gangster movie style, blocked Robson Vunganai’s vehicle at a parking lot and roughed him up before taking away the money and a Samsung Galaxy S6 cellphone.
Mhaka and Hondora had denied the offence through their lawyer Tonderai Chitere of Chitere, Chidawanyika and Partners.
Taruvinga remanded the two in custody to Monday for sentence. Hondora looked dejected after the magistrate passed the verdict.
Prosecuting, Edward Gwainda told the court that on January 9 this year at around 1PM at Pick n Pay Supermarket in Gweru, Vunganai parked his vehicle.
“After some time, the two accused arrived in a green Mercedes Benz and blocked Vunganai’s vehicle,” he said.
The prosecutor told the court that the two disembarked from the vehicle and Mhaka opened the door of Vunganai’s vehicle.
Mhaka grabbed Vunganai by the collar and groin area, Gwainda said, and Hondora joined in demanding his $120 from the complainant.
Gwainda said Vunganai indicated that he had no money but the duo did not listen and Hondora started searching him.
