BEING a child of a generous tycoon is not a licence to laziness and being spoon-fed.
This could be the philosophy of Cosmos Daka aka Cossy Rules’ rapper son, Outlaw 07 who believes in hard work.
The 18-year-old believes he can be his own man and learn to build his own empire from scratch.
He made his intentions clear when he financed his own musical video for the song ‘‘Pazvinorema’’.
Despite his father being there for him, he deliberately “avoided” him this time around and took a huge gamble which paid.
“It took us seven hours to shoot the video. It was an awesome experience, but we decided to come up with a new concept and not ask for help from my father,” he said.
Cossy Rules is a music promoter, philanthropist and businessman who has bailed out popular musicians who fall on hard times.
He used to be friends with the late Tongai Moyo and he is now assisting Dhewa’s sons — Peter Moyo and Tongai Junior. He also sponsors his own son Outlaw 07 sometimes.
The creative rapper believes his new stance has helped him come up with a unique project since he works without pressure of pleasing his dad.
“The video is unique in that I sold a couple of stuff to save up for the project instead of involving my parents.
“I did it with my couple of friends as well so it was more fun to shoot. I had to watch my friends act and see how much they supported me.
“These include Umphile, Ian, Precious, Mukudzei, Sabastian, Sonny and Taru.”
Outlaw 07 said he would always cherish the experience to interact with his siblings. “I got to see my younger brother Kosyoung playing the main role and get creative too. It is my best project as well because it was talking about life and how people are losing bright futures because of social media , drugs, peer pressure and trends.
“I noticed how much attention it got from people and that makes it even more unique and amazing. Most people can relate to it because I was talking about the day to day lives of teenagers.”
Outlining his goals, Outlaw 07 reckons his music will get global attention and put Zimbabwe on the world music map.
“My vision is to capture the attention of the youths through music and get them to listen to the advice and message in my music.
“I want to be the first big artist in Kadoma because we don’t really have anyone representing the city.
“I want to be able to sing about things in day-to-day living and advise people on the way to go.
“My short-term plan is to get my music on all platforms, get more professional and get myself known in my own city of Kadoma,” he said.
As a determined rapper, Outlaw 07 believes in proper planning.
“My long-term plans include being one of the biggest artists in Zimbabwe, hosting a huge show in my city whereby I invite all the unknown and underground artists to showcase their talent.
“I would also like to start my own record label mainly for Kadoma artists that will blow up nationwide.
“For the past 10 years, we have not had any Kadoma artists representing and doing well.”
Outlaw 07 also believes in creating synergies and new collaborations.
“I would like to feature Holy Ten, Hillzy, Ammara Brown, Voltz, Enzo and more,” he said.
