DYNAMOS coach Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa says winning his first piece of silverware will be key in his mission to write a success story at the country’s biggest football club.
He will have a crack at silverware today when the Glamour Boys take on their biggest rivals, Highlanders, in the Independence Cup final.
It’s a rare countryside battle for the giants who will clash in Mt Darwin.
The domestic football powerhouses have been together since Sunday, when they embarked on a roadshow in Mashonaland Central Province, before settling at their base at Monomotapa Crowne Plaza Hotel.
They are expected to leave this morning for their battle royale on neutral ground.
The match is one of the biggest highlights of the 43rd Independence Day celebrations.
“We have to understand we are on national duty and we are dedicated to the cause,” said Maruwa.
“We have to win the game.
“Denver Mukamba, Frank Makarati, Frank Kuchineyi and Issa Sadiki are all out with injuries.
“But, we are going to field our strongest squad available.
“Actually, the team that was supposed to be playing in Bulawayo (in a league match against Bosso last Saturday) is the one we are going to use.”
Maruwa said he was not worried about the condition of the pitch as his players have to adapt.
“We are going there to play football. We don’t have to worry much about the dangers posed by the pitch on players.
“Injuries happen everywhere, on good and bad pitches, and we have to agree that it’s part of the game.”
Highlanders showed they mean business by taking 18 first team regulars for the rumble in the jungle.
Led by skipper Ariel Sibanda, the Bosso squad in camp include vice-captain Peter Muduhwa, Mbongeni Ndlovu, Archford Faira, Andrew Mbemba, Andrew Tandi and Godfrey Makaruse.
Divine Mhindirira, Melikhaya Ncube, Darlington Mukuli, Brighton Manhire, Mason Mushore, McKinnon Mushore, Rahman Kutsanzira, Washington Navaya, Lynoth Chikuhwa and Stanley Ngala are also part of the squad.
Ngala scored the only goal as Bosso beat DeMbare 1-0 in the Uhuru Cup final last year.
