HARARE City coach Try Ncube has admitted his side are under pressure as they try to close a six-point gap on MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League leaders Black Rhinos, while holding off three clubs.
The Sunshine Boys are second with 42 points from 24 matches, but only four points separate them from fifth-placed Chingwere. Ngezi Stars Under-19 are third on 40 points, followed by G&T Mine on 39 and Chingwere on 38.
City stayed in contention after mid-season signing Emmanuel Mandiranga scored the only goal in their 1-0 victory over Black Mambas.
Rhinos dropped two points after being held 1-1 by Highrange, but remain in control of the promotion race with 48 points.
Ncube praised Mandiranga’s leadership and work rate after his decisive contribution.
“He is a good team player and a leader,” Ncube said.
“You could see the work he put in. He was running for every ball, challenging and communicating with his teammates.”
Harare City visit relegation-threatened Batanai at Trojan Mine Stadium on Saturday, while Rhinos host FC Oden at Commando Barracks.
Ncube said City could not afford to focus only on the leaders.
“We cannot lie and say there is no pressure. The pressure is there,” he said.
“But it is not only about Black Rhinos. This is the Northern Region, my friend. It is a strong league and there will be more twists and turns.”
