at a house in Belvedere.
The house in Harvey Close caught fire, destroying property including beds, wardrobes and blankets.
The incident took place after electricity was restored after a power cut.
Zesa Holdings, however, last night said it would wait for the results of the investigation into the cause of the fire.
The house belongs to Mr Gideon Mariwo who was not at home when the incident occurred.
Ms Marvellous Musakanya, a maid at the house, said the fire started in the girls’ bedroom.
She was sitting in the dinning room with three other people when the fire started.
“I saw smoke coming from our bedroom. When I went to investigate, I realised that the room was on fire,” she said.
The fire quickly spread to two other bedrooms, the passage, kitchen and the dining room.
The Harare City Council Fire Brigade arrived after about 30 minutes later and managed to save the house from total collapse.
Ms Musakanya said they had contacted Zesa to attend to the scene. Workers from the power utility had not arrived two hours after the incident.
“We called them a long time ago and they said they are coming and they encouraged us not to enter the house but they are not yet here. We cannot do anything until they come because we don’t know what really transpired and the fault is not fixed,” she said.
Zesa spokesperson Mr Fullard Gwasira yesterday said they would investigate the cause of the accident.
“I think it’s a bit premature and inappropriate to draw conclusions at this juncture. We are still confident that a proper and impartial investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the accident. Zesa will be guided by the outcome of that investigation,” he said.
