A DOROWA prophet was last week arrested for allegedly raping an 18-year-old church member. Police confirmed the incident that happened at Mudzimu Village under Chief Nyashanu in Dorowa last Tuesday at around 4pm.Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the arrest of Maxwell Charamba (43).
Allegations are that Charamba went for prayers at one of his church members’ house (name withheld) where he met the 18-year-old girl.
The two used the same way home after the prayer session, but Charamba took advantage of the trust bestowed on him by the teenager to rape her.
He is alleged to have told the teenager that he wanted to give her anointed water from a nearby river so that she would see miracles happening in her life. Through the trust she had on Charamba as the “man of God”, the girl agreed, but before they reached the river, Charamba grabbed her and pinned her to the ground. He grabbed the girl’s throat and closed her mouth so that she could not scream.
He allegedly raped her once and vanished. The teenager reported the incident to her elders on the same day and a report was made to the police.
Charamba was arrested.
