A self-proclaimed prophet from Epworth appeared in court at the weekend facing allegations of raping a 14-year-old girl at his shrine.
Aaron Petros (48), represented by his lawyer Mr Killian Mandiki, was charged with rape when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate, Mrs Jesse Kufa.
The magistrate advised Petros to apply for bail at the High Court since he is being charged with a serious offence.
He was subsequently remanded to August 3 pending the finalisation of investigations.
Prosecutor Mr Kudakwashe Muza alleged that on July 11 at Chitsuwa Shrine, Sunway City, Petros allegedly unzipped the victim’s clothing and took her into a small tent.
The court heard that he then grabbed the complainant by the neck and held her mouth with his left hand.
The prosecution further told the court that the victim tried to wrestle with the accused, but was overpowered before being raped.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused person. Investigations are still ongoing.
