A self-styled prophet was arrested for allegedly raping his supposed client while conducting prayers during the night.
Tobia Dospani, 40, based at Kuwadzana paddocks, allegedly made prophecies to his client aged 26, that there was a need for him to conduct night prayers at her house.
The woman, a fuel service station attendant, had sought spiritual help from Madzibaba Tobia at his shrine at around 9 am.
She was in the company of her sister.
At around 2200 hours on the same day, the two sisters went to pick Madzibaba Tobia and took him to the victim’s house in Epworth.
Upon arrival, Madzibaba Tobia conducted a prayer and told his victim that they should conduct another prayer at around midnight.
The victim’s married sister left for her house. The victim then offered Madzibaba her bed whilst she slept on the floor since she uses one room.
At around midnight, the victim reminded Madzibaba Tobia that it was time to conduct the prayers.
The two conducted the prayers and went back to sleep in their respective positions.
At around 0100 hours, Madzibaba Tobia indicated that he wanted to have sex with her, and his advances were turned down.
Madzibaba Tobia jumped from the bed to where his client was sleeping and raped her once without protection. After the act, the victim escaped from the room, locked it from outside, and went to inform her sister leading to Madzibaba Tobia’s arrest.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest.
“Police arrested a Kuwadzana self-styled prophet for raping his client.
“His victim was referred to hospital for medical examination,” said Insp Chakanza.
