Prophet Magaya lends a hand in Sakubva revamp

Ray Bande in MUTARE

DOMESTIC football all weather friend Prophet Walter Magaya has offered technical assistance to Mutare City Council in revamping Sakubva Stadium to a world class football match venue.

The technical assistance from the Yadah Stars FC owner comes as the local authority is now placing final touches on the drainage system and turf renovations that have been going on for the greater part of last year.

Prophet Magaya, whose trendy Heart Stadium in Harare was recently commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was in the eastern border city this week where he shared notes with the Mutare City Council management on how best to implement lasting renovations to Sakubva Stadium.

Prophet Magaya said: “I was received with great honour by the municipality of Mutare. The Acting Town Clerk there is just amazing. The team has a great vision and they are up to making Sakubva Stadium one of the best stadiums in Zimbabwe.

“According to the passion that I saw in their eyes and how they are working I think they will achieve it. Yes, I was invited to give some technical advice and I did that. There is potential for us to keep on assisting as much as we can.

“We are waiting for their next move but all said it is a powerful team in Mutare that is different from all the other municipalities. I have been to different places but I can safely say these guys are a cut above the rest.

“They want Mutare to become one of the best cities in the country which is lacking in most city councils. What I saw is amazing in terms of their attitude towards development. On its own it is an act of removing poverty from the people.

“On its own, it is an act of providing employment. On its own, it is an act of fighting drug and substance abuse. Sakubva Stadium carries the potential of becoming one of the best stadia in the country very soon. I loved the lawn, I loved the drainage system works that have been carried out. Yes, they (Mutare City Council) will have to attend to a few things for the facility to meet the internationally acceptable standards. With their positive attitude, I have no doubt that it will be achieved.”

Mutare City Council Acting Town Clerk Blessing Chafesuka said: “We thought of engaging Prophet Walter Magaya given the success he registered with the Heart Stadium project.

“We are of the opinion that we have a lot to learn from him hence this engagement. We are grateful to the advice he gave us and we are working on modalities on how best we can strike a long standing professional working relationship meant to improve our beloved Sakubva Stadium.”

Prophet Magaya, a local football benefactor on note, has bankrolled not only his Yadah Stars Premiership outfit but also funded the entire cost of the Warriors camp on a number of occasions including the preparations for the 2019 AFCON qualifiers, in a bold demonstration of his grand commitment to the success of the national team.
